Cash 4 is Georgia's, Tennessee's, Arkansas' and Mississippi's name for Pick 4. All four pay $5,000 straight on $1, and only Tennessee pays $1,198 rather than $1,200 for a 4-way box, so the Cash 4 payout chart matches the typical table in three of the four states. Daily 4 is played in Texas, Michigan, Indiana, California and West Virginia: Michigan pays $1,250 to $208 for box wins, the other fixed-prize states pay $1,200 to $200, and California's prizes are pari-mutuel.
What Is the Difference Between Straight and Box Payouts?
A Pick 4 straight win pays $5,000 on $1 because only one order wins, while a box win pays $200 to $1,200 because it covers 24, 12, 6 or 4 orders. Straight/box tickets combine both.
- Straight: $1 on 3-8-0-5 pays $5,000 if 3-8-0-5 is drawn. Georgia's Cash 4 pays exactly that, and each Georgia draw is posted on the Georgia Cash 4 results page.
- 24-way box: $1 on 3-8-0-5 pays $200 if the four digits come out in any order, such as 5-0-8-3.
- 12-way and 6-way box: $1 on 3-3-8-0 pays $400 in any order; $1 on 3-3-8-8 pays $800.
- 4-way box: $1 on 3-3-3-8 pays $1,200 – the largest box prize, because only four orders exist.
- Straight/box (50/50 in North Carolina and Virginia): $1 on 3-8-0-5 pays $2,600 in exact order and $100 in any other order; on 3-3-3-8 it pays $3,100 or $600. These amounts appear in the Idaho, West Virginia and New Mexico prize tables; for other states they are calculated as half a straight prize plus half a box prize.
A Pick 4 any-order (box) win on $1 therefore pays $200, $400, $800 or $1,200 in most states, and half that on $0.50. A Pick 4 straight/box ticket pays $2,600 to $3,100 when the exact order is drawn and $100 to $600 for any other order, depending on the box size. Cash 4 straight/box tickets in Georgia follow the same half-and-half rule, and because the prizes are fixed, today's Cash 4 straight/box payout equals the amount in this list. The straight/box payout chart by box size:
| Your number | Box size | Pays in exact order | Pays in any other order |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 different digits (e.g. 3-8-0-5) | 24-way | $2,600 | $100 |
| one pair (e.g. 3-3-8-0) | 12-way | $2,700 | $200 |
| two pairs (e.g. 3-3-8-8) | 6-way | $2,900 | $400 |
| three of a kind (e.g. 3-3-3-8) | 4-way | $3,100 | $600 |
What Are the Odds of Winning Pick 4?
The odds of a Pick 4 straight win are 1 in 10,000 on every draw. A 24-way box wins 1 in 416.7 times, a 4-way box 1 in 2,500, and a two-digit pair bet 1 in 100.
| Bet type | Winning combinations (of 10,000) | Odds (1 in n) | Probability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Straight | 1 | 1 in 10,000 | 0.01% |
| Box 24-way | 24 | 1 in 416.7 | 0.24% |
| Box 12-way | 12 | 1 in 833.3 | 0.12% |
| Box 6-way | 6 | 1 in 1,666.7 | 0.06% |
| Box 4-way | 4 | 1 in 2,500 | 0.04% |
| Pair (front, mid or back) | 100 | 1 in 100 | 1% |
| Four of a kind (e.g. 8-8-8-8), straight only | 1 | 1 in 10,000 | 0.01% |
You need all four digits for a straight or box win and two digits in the right places for a pair bet. Fireball and Wild Ball add four extra winning numbers to each draw at lower prizes. A Fireball straight win on a number with four different digits has odds of 1 in 2,500 (calculated: 40 winning draw-and-Fireball combinations out of 100,000), and each state prints its own add-on odds on its prize chart. Over time, straight bets return 50% of the money played ($5,000 on 1-in-10,000 chances) and 24-way box bets about 48%.
How Much Does Fireball Pay on Pick 4?
Pick 4 Fireball prizes are lower than the base prizes and set separately by each state. New Jersey, for example, pays $1,350 for a Fireball straight win on a $1 base play – $2 in total with Fireball – and $675 on $0.50.
The Fireball digit takes the place of any one of the four drawn digits, so four extra numbers win each draw. Fireball wins count only on tickets that bought the add-on.
| State | Add-on | Bet type | Prize on a $0.50 base play | Prize on a $1 base play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Jersey | Fireball | Straight | $675 | $1,350 |
| Virginia | Fireball | Exact Order | – | $1,500 |
| Illinois | Fireball | Straight | – | $2,000 |
| Pennsylvania | Wild Ball | Box 4-way / 6-way / 12-way / 24-way | – | $390 / $260 / $130 / $60 |
| Tennessee | Wild Ball | Exact Order | – | $1,350 |
| Indiana | Superball | Straight | – | $1,360 |
North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, Texas (Daily 4) and Mississippi also sell Fireball on their four-digit games, and Connecticut and Missouri sell Wild Ball; each lottery publishes its own chart. Daily 4 with Fireball is sold in Texas only, while Indiana's Daily 4 add-on, Superball, pays $1,360 on a $1 straight win. A Pick 4 straight/box ticket with Fireball is two half-stake bets, so in New Jersey its straight half pays the $0.50 Fireball straight prize of $675 when it matches a Fireball number exactly (calculated). The spread – $1,350 in New Jersey and $1,500 for the same win under Virginia Pick 4 payouts – is why each state's own chart applies.
Why Do Some States Pay Different Pick 4 Prizes?
Pick 4 prizes vary because every lottery writes its own prize table. Two states pay $6,000 straight, several pay slightly higher or lower box prizes, three use pari-mutuel prizes, and some limit sales on a busy number.
Higher Prizes in Missouri and Iowa
Missouri and Iowa pay $6,000 for a $1 straight win and $1,500, $1,000, $500 or $250 for box wins. Oregon's All 4 Any Order bet pays the same box amounts, though its straight prize stays at $5,000, and Iowa also pays $60 for a $1 pair win.
Different Box Prizes in Ohio, Delaware and Other States
Ohio and Tennessee pay $1,198 instead of $1,200 for a 4-way box. Ohio's full chart, with its Back-Up bet at $5,200 to $6,198, is under Ohio Pick 4 payouts. Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island and the Tri-State game pay $1,250, $834, $416 and $208, Michigan pays $833 for a 6-way box, and Puerto Rico pays $1,250 and $830.
Pari-Mutuel Prizes in California, New Mexico and Massachusetts
California Daily 4 and New Mexico Pick 4 Plus divide prize money among winners, so a straight win can pay less than $5,000; New Mexico caps each prize tier at $125,000 per draw. Massachusetts' Numbers Game pays out 63% of the money bet on each draw. The two prize models are compared in fixed vs pari-mutuel prizes.
Liability Limits in North Carolina and Other States
North Carolina's game rules let the lottery stop accepting bets on a number once the prizes owed on it reach a set limit. The rule is noted with the North Carolina Pick 4 payouts, and Iowa, Rhode Island and New Mexico keep the same right. The Caribbean Lottery in the US Virgin Islands caps Pick 4 liability at $1,000,000 per bet type.
Pick 4 Payout FAQ
With the prize tables set, the remaining questions cover partial matches, 50-cent plays, taxes and how a prize is worked out.
Can you win Pick 4 with 2 numbers?
Yes, where the state sells pair bets: a front, back or mid pair pays $50 on a $1 play in North Carolina, New Jersey and Texas, and Iowa pays $60. Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky sell no pair bets on their four-digit games.
What is the most you can win on Pick 4?
A $1 straight Pick 4 play pays $5,000 in most states and $6,000 in Missouri and Iowa. Bigger stakes pay more where allowed: Connecticut and Rhode Island pay $25,000 on a $5 straight play.
Do you win anything with 1 number on Pick 4?
No, not on standard Pick 4 plays. The one exception is the Tri-State Pick 4 shared by Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, whose Single Digit play pays $5 on $1 with odds of 1 in 10.
Is the Pick 4 payout the same in every state?
No. Most states pay $5,000 straight and $1,200 to $200 for box wins on $1, but Missouri and Iowa pay $6,000, several lotteries pay $1,250 to $208 for box wins, Ohio pays $1,198 for a 4-way box, and California and New Mexico use pari-mutuel prizes.
Are Pick 4 winnings taxed?
Yes. A $5,000 Pick 4 straight win is over the $2,000 W-2G reporting threshold, but federal withholding applies only when winnings minus the stake exceed $5,000, so none is taken from a $1 win (IRS, 2026). State rules differ; you can estimate the tax on a Pick 4 prize.
How much is a 50-cent box Pick 4 win?
A 50-cent Pick 4 box win pays half the $1 prize in most states: $100 for a 24-way box, $200 for 12-way, $400 for 6-way and $600 for 4-way. Georgia's Cash 4 pays the same amounts on a 50¢ box play, every day.
How do I calculate Pick 4 winnings?
Multiply the $1 prize by your stake – a $2 straight win pays $10,000 where $1 pays $5,000 (calculated). A straight/box ticket pays half the straight prize plus half the box prize, and a combo pays one straight prize. The bet types are explained in how to play Pick 4.
