Day ticket sales close at 1:05 PM ET, 30 minutes before the drawing, while Evening sales run until 6:57 PM ET. Pennsylvania is an Eastern Time state, so these are local times across the state.
How to Claim a Pennsylvania Lottery Prize
Pennsylvania Pick 2, Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 prizes must be claimed within one year of the drawing date. Players must be 18 or older, and retailers pay prizes of up to $2,500 under Pennsylvania Lottery rules.
$2,500 or less: any Pennsylvania Lottery retailer. Prizes over $600 also need a completed Claim Form.
Over $2,500: paid only by the Pennsylvania Lottery – by mail (signed ticket + Claim Form to Pennsylvania Lottery, 1200 Fulling Mill Road, Suite 1, Middletown, PA 17057) or in person at a Pennsylvania Lottery office.
Identification: check the Pennsylvania Lottery's current ID requirements before mailing or visiting.
The PA lottery claim form is required for every prize over $600, whether the ticket is cashed at a retailer or mailed to Middletown. A $500 Pick 3 Straight win or a $1,200 Pick 4 Box win is paid at a retailer – the Pick 4 win with a Claim Form, as it is over $600 – while a $5,000 Pick 4 or $50,000 Pick 5 Straight win is paid by the Lottery itself. The $2,500 retailer limit is higher than the $599 or $600 limit used in many other states.
How other states handle the same prizes is compared in how to claim a Pick 3 or Pick 4 prize.
Taxes on Pennsylvania Lottery Winnings
Pennsylvania taxes PA Lottery cash prizes at its 3.07% personal income tax rate, a rule that applies to prizes paid on or after January 1, 2016, and the Pennsylvania Lottery withholds that 3.07% on prizes over $5,000.
Noncash prizes are not subject to the Pennsylvania tax. At federal level in 2026, a W-2G form is issued when a win reaches $2,000 and 300 times the stake, and 24% is withheld when the win, minus the stake, is above $5,000. A $5,000 Pick 4 Straight win on $1 is taxable at 3.07% but sits at, not over, the withholding line, so nothing is withheld; a $50,000 Pick 5 Straight win is withheld at both state and federal level.
The lottery tax calculator works out the Pennsylvania and federal amounts for any prize.
